How Do I Improve My Social Media Presence?

Normally post with names like these would make me groan, but what makes this one different is that it’s a) a Quora forum (there has to be some decent content) and b) it includes an answer by Robert Scoble (who, love him or hate him, owns social media).

The forum is here, but Scoble’s answers are as follows:

  • Improve your inbound (make lists on your social media, so you can see the incoming information and share accordingly, see below)
  • Curate other people’s content (like and retweet)
  • Throw a party and invite social media people to it. “Extra points if it’s a Google+ video hangout that you broadcast and push to YouTube”.
  • Be original.  “I remember one guy got us all to pay attention by doing a puppet show on YouTube. “
  • Answer Quora questions. They get attention on social media.
  • Start a fight. “I once asked Mike Arrington (founder of Techcrunch) if he was a blogger or a journalist. He answered “neither, I’m an entertainer.” He often picked on people and started fights. Fights aggregate attention. We learned that in high school. A fight always got the entire school to run and see what was going on.”
  • Do something worth commenting on. Or sharing. Or liking.
  • Get some insight no one else will be able to get. (Find up and coming people. Scoble did this with startups)
  • Make sure your details are public AND up to date.
  • Get off of social media!
