The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs

It had to happen (though frankly, I'm happy it's happening too). Carmine Gallo has penned the book “The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs – How to Be Insanely Great In Front of Any Audience“.

While I haven't had a chance to look at the book yet, Gallo recently appeared on ABC and had these tips:

  1. Introduce an antagonist. Jobs always picks someone to be against, whether it be Microsoft, IBM, or the industry in general.
  2. Create twitter-friendly headlines. What was the Macbook Air? “The world's thinnest laptop”.
  3. Sell dreams, not productsWhat is it about the product that will change someone's life? For example, the mp3 player was about “enriching people's experiences”.
  4. Practice zen-like simplicity Zen philsophy says that simplicity is the elimination of clutter, and Jobs says is “the ultimate sophistication”. Jobs uses few words on his slides.
  5. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse!Jobs practises for hundreds of hours over the course of weeks!

While most of these points have been covered by Nancy Duarte's “Slideology” and Garr Reynolds' “Presentation Zen“, this still looks like a good read. (By the way, gotta love the “insanely great presentation” part – as a summary from the 2009 keynote shows)
